Grey skies looking at me - A LAKE FOR ALL SEASONS

Yet more grey skies today, the monotony appears unending. I always try to find one positive thought regarding the weather as we head into the depths of winter but some days it is challenging. As I got into my stride on the way out this morning, I was very aware of the sound of the waves against the shore. The wind had picked up a bit today and that of course always adds movement to the water. I’m always amazed at how our part of the lake is so different than to where the wee laddie is just 10 kilometers further along.

And then I got to thinking about the tempo and rhythm of the waves reaching the rocks, docks or small beaches dotted along the shore. It’s so very different from walking by the sea. The waves here are moving in quick punctuated spurts as compared to the slow, building swell and release of the seas and oceans. I’m very much drawn to the ebb and flow of the tides in their less restrictive environs. But as I can’t get home to the sea in the foreseeable future, this will do very nicely thank you.
